LAST UPDATED / MARCH 2022

Macarthur Ceramics Group's inaugural exhibition - 'Dust to Table: Macarthur Ceramics Group' will be held at Campbelltown Arts Centre as part of this year's Macarthur and Beyond showcase. Opening to the public on Saturday April 9, we are counting down!

I will be exhibiting my work alongside 15 other members of the Macarthur Ceramics Group, in what will be a diverse exhibition showcasing some of the talent and offerings of South Western Sydney's creative ceramics community.

Along with the exhibition there will be a workshop space that will be activated each weekend by members of our group, so hopefully we will see you at the Arts Centre soon!

I am ceramic artist creating works informed by issues of gender inequality. In my latest body of work I am using the domestic jug as a metaphor for the role of women throughout history and now, as they are filled and emptied, as the clay becomes an extension of the body.

Whilst feminine voices throughout history and today are often hushed or silent, the household objects we as women use, and have often made ourselves, give accounts of shared experiences that transcend time.

For this specific body of work, I am focussing on the statistic 'one in six'.

The statistics tell us that one in six Australian women have experienced abuse, sexual assault or physical violence from a man within their lifetime. Compounded in this statistic is the experience of the other five in six and their unaccounted experiences of verbal abuse, harassment, discrimination or other gendered inequalities that impact women's ability to make decisions about our own lives, bodies and futures.

Walls adopt the role of the institution, as the white jugs remain largely invisible, but for a small light glowing from within, as the walls pour their contents out into the world through the mouth of the jug.

Earthly and organic in nature, the contents pouring from the wall contradict the cold and severe architecture, casting their shadow in an attempt to alter the wall's appearance.
